My name is Emily
Determined and strong; I am a sister, an auntie, a daughter, sequin lover and former president of the Funky Arse Dancers!
I’m Emily, and in December I turned 30. My family are everything to me. I have one sister and my gorgeous little niece, who is my forced best friend! I have spent the last 9 years being a retailer buyer for various retailers including Asda, Sainsburys and Superdrug, and I now am a Category Manager for Oral Health for GSK. I have a massive love of shopping (hence becoming a buyer) and am a self-confessed shopaholic.
I never take myself too seriously
I am determined and strong willed, but I never take myself too seriously. I’m an extremely passionate and energetic person, always on the go but that’s what I love! Most of all, being kind is the most important thing you can be.
I’ve danced all my life, so any chance to get me on the dance floor and I am there. I also love being active – I always choose adventure.
Out of the blue, my world stopped
In June 2019, at the age of 29, my world stopped. Out of the blue, I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. I was young, fit and healthy - living my best life. I didn’t even know anyone who had had cancer, let alone think it would happen to me! I did not have time for this.
Fast forward the next few months: lots of scans and biopsies, one round of emergency fertility preservation, medically induced menopause, 100’s of blood tests, eight rounds of dose dense intense chemotherapy, a single mastectomy and full node clearance, 15 rounds of radiotherapy and I’m only now coming to the end of my active treatment.
I will continue to be monitored and on treatment for the next 10 years of my life.
Why wear it pink?
I am so passionate about raising funds for research and care, as well as raising awareness of cancer in young adults, in a fun and engaging way. So, this is something wear it pink enables me to do.
As I found out, breast cancer can affect you at any age, and being body-aware is so so important. As well as raising awareness, I want to show others that a diagnosis does not have to stop you, you can still be yourself and live your life. #cancercantstopme!
Join me, and make it fun
For me, raising money and awareness in a fun and light-hearted way is so important, and wear it pink is so inclusive, so you can make it what you want. Just want to wear a pink pin? That’s fab! Want to go all-out, wearing a cupcake with a pink wig? That’s great too!
My advice will always be make it FUN! People are more likely to be engaged and dig deep when they are enjoying themselves!
So, why don’t you join me? Wear it pink for those who are no longer with us, wear it pink for those currently fighting and wear it pink so future generations won’t have to lose any one they love to breast cancer.
Feeling inspired to wear it pink? You can register today for your fundraising pack and join Emily on October 23rd.
